June 5 - St. George UT to Overton NV

Another of those infamous three state days: Utah, Arizona, and Nevada.

Loaded up at 5:30 a.m. and on the road, first to WalMart for a bit more food and some ice, then drove up through Santa Clara, past Ivins, and into the Paiute Tribal Lands and onto Old Hwy 91. It was an uphill climb for much of the first nime miles, but oh my, what a downhill for Sherri, Gary, and Charlotte. Being on the edge of the Mojave Desert there were Joshua trees. Very windy, 77 degrees at 9:40 a.m. Just west of here is the lowest point in Utah (2178 ft). Crossed into Arizona where there's a stretch of about 16 miles through the "snowbird towns" of Beaver Dam and Littlefield. Gary wantef a B2 (second breakfast) but no place to get one. Gary was pooped out from riding against so much wind. Loaded up Gary and his bike, but despite the wind Sherri still wanted to ride.

Charlotte accompanied me while I drove Gary to Mesquite NV to a McDonalds. Dropped him off, then went back to see what Sherri wanted to do. She wanted to continue riding, but due to the 30-40 mph wind it was becoming unsafe. Got Sherri and her bike loaded up and drove back to Mesquite to have lunch with Gary.

It was still too windy to ride safely so we drove south to the Moapa Valley turn-off Exit 93 from the I-15. Drove 12 miles to our destination of Overton.

Overton was originally founded under the leadership of Helaman Pratt in 1869. In the 1880's the only store in the lower Moapa Valley. In the 1930's, the town of St. Thomas was submerged by water as Lake Mead was being filled, and the majority of its population relocated to Overton. Overton is located 65 miles NE of Las Vegas, in Clark County. The town features a stunning landscape of mesas, foothills, and nearby Lake Mead. It's the closest town to Valley of Fire State Park.

We found the church just fine. The name of the church is Lake Mead Baptist, Pastor Scott Adams. We feel right at home, very comfortable. We each got to do our own thing, and have our space.

A young female reporter from the local newspaper interviewed us here at the church. Hope the article makes it into the newspaper.

Just one more full day riding. This year's ride has been so packed with seeing so many sights and memories. It has been fun to have Sherri ride with us after a five year hiatus.

All for now.

With love from Southern Nevada.
Marie
